I want to record to my hard drive using an external mic--voice and drums.
The only way I know to get an audio recording is using Powerpoint with an external mic.
I want to take audio and then burn it to a CD usinf Windows XP. Is there a way to do this with already installed software???
Any help???

which version of XP?
You should be able to do this in Windows Media, never heard of the Powerpoint way
or, just look on the web for a demo, or free program.

Start menu -> All programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Sound recorder to record .WAV file to disc.
Windows Media Player to burn to CD.

I've also used Wave Studio from Creative Labs... it was on the installation cd from an old Creative Sound Blaster sound card quite a few years back.
In fact, I also used Wave Studio to edit some off the floor recording my old band did before releasing it as a demo cd. Not a bad utility really.

Thank you all...I found a CD I had called, Cool Edit Pro. This gives me the ability to hook a mic up and record. Very cool program.

Another good program I'm using more and more of lately is one called Audacity - I import the tunes directly from my Yamaha MD8 to the laptop using Audacity, and I mixdown from there then I can export it as either a WAV or MP3 - the MP3 gives you the ability to add titles/comments etc about the track.
It's free.. free is good.
